This series of prints depicting ascetics and mystics are particularly striking because of the artist’s fascination with the spiritual commune. As a child, the various holy men who visited his grandfather fascinated him. The young Mahaveer was drawn to them, enchanted by what he describes as “a glow on their faces”.
As a mature artist he still travels to the annual festival at Ajmer to study the faces of the participants.
